About the Remove Line Breaks
Text copied from a PDF, an email or an old document often has a hard line break at the end of every line, even in the middle of a sentence. Paste it here and Remove Line Breaks joins those lines back into normal, flowing text.
You choose how much to remove. Join everything into one block, keep the paragraphs and fix only the lines inside them, or simply delete the empty lines. You can also join lines with a comma or a semicolon, which turns a column of names or email addresses into a list you can paste into one field.
Extra spaces are tidied up along the way, and words split with a hyphen at the end of a line can be put back together. Everything happens in your browser, so your text never leaves your device.
How to use it
- Paste your textPaste into the left box or drop a text file onto it. Sample loads a short passage copied from a PDF.
- Choose what to removeAll line breaks makes one block of text. Keep paragraphs fixes the lines but leaves a blank line between paragraphs. Only empty lines deletes blank lines and keeps every other line as it is.
- Pick how lines are joinedJoin with a space for normal text, with nothing for split codes and links, or with a comma or semicolon to build a list.
- Set the clean-up optionsRemove extra spaces is on by default. Turn on "Rejoin words split by a hyphen" for text from PDFs and books.
- Copy or downloadThe cleaned text appears on the right. Copy it, or download it as a .txt file.
Key features
Three modes
Remove every line break, keep paragraphs, or remove only empty lines.
Four ways to join
A space, nothing, a comma or a semicolon, so the same tool fixes prose and builds lists.
Hyphenated words rejoined
Turns "para-" at the end of one line and "graphs" at the start of the next back into "paragraphs".
Space clean-up
Removes spaces at the start and end of each line, squeezes runs of spaces and tabs into one, and turns non-breaking spaces into normal ones.
Any line ending
Windows (CRLF), old Mac (CR) and Unix (LF) line breaks are all handled the same way.
Private by design
There is no upload and no account. The status line tells you how many line breaks were removed.
Examples
Fixing text copied from a PDF
Paste a passage where every line ends early and one word is split across two lines:
When you copy text from a PDF, every line
ends with a hard line break, even in the
middle of a sentence. This tool joins those
lines back into normal para-
graphs.
With All line breaks and "Rejoin words split by a hyphen" turned on, you get one clean paragraph:
When you copy text from a PDF, every line ends with a hard line break, even in the middle of a sentence. This tool joins those lines back into normal paragraphs.
Without the hyphen option, the split word would come out as "para- graphs".
What each mode does
Take this input, with a blank line before the last line:
Line one
line two
Line three
| Mode | Result | Status |
|---|---|---|
| All line breaks | Line one line two Line three | Removed 3 line breaks |
| Keep paragraphs | Line one line two (blank line) Line three | Removed 1 line break |
| Only empty lines | Line one line two Line three | Removed 1 line break |
Turning lines into a list
| Input lines | Result |
|---|---|
| Jane Doe 123 Main Street Springfield, IL 62704 | Joined with a comma: Jane Doe, 123 Main Street, Springfield, IL 62704 |
| ana@example.com ben@example.com (blank line) cara@example.com | Joined with a semicolon: ana@example.com; ben@example.com; cara@example.com |
Blank lines are skipped when lines are joined, so you never get an empty item like ";;" in the list.
A link that an email program broke across two lines is fixed with Join with nothing:
https://example.com/reports/2026/
quarterly-summary.pdf
The result is the working link again: https://example.com/reports/2026/quarterly-summary.pdf.
Tips
- Start with Keep paragraphs for anything longer than a few lines. It fixes the broken sentences but keeps the structure of the original, which is easier to read and edit.
- Joining email addresses with a semicolon gives a list that Outlook and most other email programs accept in the To field.
- If the text has a blank line between every line, as some websites produce when copied, use Only empty lines first, then run the result through again with Keep paragraphs or All line breaks.
- Check your word count afterwards. Once the line breaks are gone, the Word Counter can count sentences and paragraphs properly.
- Copying a column from a spreadsheet gives one value per line. Join with a comma to paste the values into a search box, a tag field or a filter.
Common mistakes and limits
- Losing real hyphensThe hyphen option cannot tell a word split for layout from a word that is always written with a hyphen. "well-" at the end of a line followed by "known" becomes "wellknown". Leave the option off if your text has many hyphenated words, or check them afterwards.
- Expecting names to be rejoinedA hyphen is only removed when the next line starts with a lowercase letter, so "Jean-" followed by "Paul" stays apart as "Jean- Paul". Fix such names by hand.
- Removing all breaks from lists and tablesBullet lists, tables and poems rely on their line breaks. Use Only empty lines, or paste just the part that needs fixing.
- Turning off Remove extra spacesWith it off, the spaces at the start and end of each line are kept, so joined text can end up with double or triple spaces between words.
- Joining with nothing by accidentJoin with nothing glues lines together directly, which is right for split links and codes but turns normal text into "linesjoinedlikethis".
